Welcoming Winter with Season-Specific Hands-On Bodywork and Gentle Breathing Meditation

Welcoming Winter with Season-Specific Hands-On Bodywork and Gentle Breathing Meditation

Join us for a nurturing class to embrace the change of season, and flow into winter allowing you to surrender with more ease into what is unfolding in your life. Kristin and Sarah have integrated the benefits of relaxing breathwork and meditation with gentle bodywork to encourage the mind and body to fully relax and to invite in the calm and peace that winter represents.

In Classical Chinese Medicine and Yin Yoga, the winter season coincides with the element water, representing the basis for life. As winter approaches, our yang (active) begins to decline, yielding to the growth strength of yin (rest). Water element gives us our will to survive and provides our reservoir for energy. When imbalanced, however, feelings of fear and instability may arise.

Through gentle bodywork, meditation and breathing techniques, this class will work to process and let go of these emotions using the themes of the winter season – the water element acupressure points, yin, and the exhale hold. Rather than resisting change and uncertainty, we will practice yielding to the path of least resistance and to the downward quality of winter.

Our minds and bodies experience similar changes as we move through the seasons. This class will use meditation, pranayama (breathwork), and gentle hands on bodywork to align and balance both the mind and body with the season of nature. Specific meditation and breathwork techniques will be used to find grounding and healing energy within. Rather than resisting change and uncertainty, we practice yielding to the path of least resistance and to the downward quality of winter.

Come prepared to slow down, connect, and welcome the soothing energy of this serene season (once the holidays hurry on by). All levels are welcome!

Summer Solstice Breath Walk

Summer Solstice Breath Walk

As the sun reaches its highest point in the sky and lends it light for the longest day of the year, come walk and breathe with intention in Pitney's gardens. The Summer Solstice welcomes the transition from growth-oriented action to nourishment and this walk will immerse your senses in how the abundant gardens are reaching their full shape, as summer arrives.

We will move through the gardens following the four parts of the breath starting at the northmost part of the garden, to symbolize the season of breath (the transition between the inhale and inhale hold) that we find ourselves in. As we breathe into the garden and relish the sounds and smell of this celebratory transition, the intention is for each ambler to move away with a relaxed focus for summer and a newfound appreciation for slow breaths, especially for the transition between the inhale and the inhale hold.

Gentle Breathwork to Bloom into Spring - $30

Take 90 minutes to practice and learn more about mindful breathwork centered around the inhale to awaken to Spring. After moving through winter, the season of the exhale hold, your breath and body are ready to blossom.

We begin with a brief breath flow to slow down and connect with our bodies and each other, followed by a discussion about the physiological benefits of the inhale. We will continue into a slow, sweet inhale-centric breath flow to witness what is alive in the inhale, calling us forward this spring. We will finish with reflections and ideas to integrate slow breathing into this season.

No prior experience with breathwork is needed. While breathwork affects each nervous system differently, the intention for our time together is for you to release and reemerge with more clarity about what spring holds for you. We will explore different techniques, including but not limited to, the extended inhale and the interrupted breath through a gentle, therapeutic approach.

During this workshop, we will explore a few different breathing techniques to see how they feel to your nervous system.

The workshop includes:

  • Overview of the basics of conscious breathing with some fun breathing trivia

  • A 30-minute breathing flow to settle in and savor the morning beverages

  • Reflection prompts to dig into your relationship with the breath

  • A 15% Discount to DB Trends Boutique

Conscious, slow breathing is a wonderful vehicle to move you through a stuck emotion, energy, or mood. 31% of Americans anticipate being more stressed during this 2023 holiday season, according to the American Psychiatric Association. Acquire a beautiful tool rooted in your humanity that you always have access to to help navigate the season.

When you slow down your breathing, you elicit the rest-and-digest response in your body and become open to the vastness of experience. To regulate the nervous system, studies show it takes about a month of regular conscious breathing. That’s why exploring a breathing practice with your coffee or morning beverage is a great way to begin to build breathwork into your life.

If you are a parent, you can drop your child off at Play Hallow for an ornament crafting class, which is a couple of doors down from DB Trends, while you enjoy a beautiful morning of breathwork and morning sips. Plus, some extra time for holiday shopping and other errands. The cost is $40 . You can sign up here.

Or once you sign up for the workshop, you can receive a discount code
